Three Things That Damage A Gummy

• Heat. Gummies soften and fuse. It also speeds up the degradation of the vitamins inside them.

Why The Bathroom Is Wrong

A bathroom cabinet manages two of those three several times a day. A shower raises the temperature and the humidity sharply, and a cabinet does not seal against either. When They Arrive Stuck Together

This is normal, it happens to every gummy supplement on the market, and it is not a fault. A parcel that has spent an afternoon in a hot van or on a doorstep in July arrives with the gummies fused into a block.

Put the closed bottle in the fridge for an hour. They firm up and separate. They are perfectly fine to take and none of the vitamins have gone anywhere. The one time to be cautious is if they are also wet, discoloured or smell wrong, which is a different problem.

What An Expiry Date Means

On a supplement it is a best-before rather than a use-by. It is the manufacturer’s estimate of how long the contents stay at the declared potency under proper storage. Past it the usual outcome is a gradual loss of potency rather than anything harmful.

The important half of that sentence is under proper storage. A bottle kept in a hot bathroom for a year may be well short of its label before the printed date arrives.

• Visible moisture or anything growing inside.
• A smell that has changed noticeably.
• Significant discolouration rather than simple stickiness.
• Open for considerably more than a year.
• It spent a summer somewhere genuinely hot, like a car.
